The Elementary School had a day filled with fun and adventure for our Harvest Fair!  Students came to school dressed as Cowboys, Indians, Turkeys, etc… During the day each class went to the gymnasium to play a myriad of games for which they won tickets and then used those tickets to buy prizes. t was a day filled with Thanksgiving!

September- This month 4th grade is studying about plant and animal life. We not only learned how plants grow, we also grew our own bean sprouts and measured which type of bean grows the fastest. FYI: Lima beans won! We also learned about producers (plants), consumers (animals), and decomposers (bacteria and fungi). Working together in groups we created our own elaborate food chain. It is awesome to see how God makes everything work and interact together perfectly; and how even the most insignicant creatures can have an important purpose in His design.

October- This month in Math we are studying about everything using base-four measurement. We are making predictions about our calender markers in Number Corner that regroup by fours from units, to strips, to mats. We are learning about liquid measurement using food coloring and visually seeing how 4 cups make a quart, and 4 quarts make a gallon. Finally, we are using base-four notation the way mathematicians do while we find minimal collections for the hands-on base-four peices we use. It is amazing to see how many times we count by fours in our everyday life without even thinking about it!

“Fifth graders have enjoyed learning how to write Bio poems and Memoirs in Writing class. The publishing party in September was a great way to showcase their hard work for the month on Bio poems. They are excited about showing off their Memoirs for October as well.”

Thankfulness

November is a great time to think about all of the things we are thankful for. God has blessed us in so many ways, and it is important to take time each day to tell Him how much we appreciate it. We’ve been reading many books about being thankful.

Forgiveness

October is all about forgiveness. Through Bible verses, books, and class discussions we are learning about why forgiveness is so important. Forgiveness is deciding that someone who had wronged you doesn’t have to pay. We can all think of a time when we were forgiven, so we also must forgive others.

Writers Workshop

Writers Workshop is also a new class in the curriculum for this year. Our students are walking through the Writing Process to become published authors. For the Month of September our students published Bio-Poems and had a Publishing party to celebrate their accomplishment. It is amazing to see how they are evolving into great writers.

Readers Workshop

Readers Workshop is a new class that has been incorporated into our curriculum this year. It is made up of 22 minutes of Independent reading time were our students read on their own at their own levels. The Next 22 minutes are made up of Reading Response time where students listen to a piece of literature and respond to a Focus question based on the reading in their Reading Response Journals. It is amazing to see how our students are connecting and responding to literature. For our read aloud this month we read Chicken Sunday by Patricia Polacco which our class truly enjoyed.

Creation

Bible time is one of our favorites of the day since we learn about God’s truth. For this month we have been focusing on trusting God’s promises because God does not lie, and whatever He promised us He will give us. We have also learned about the promise of Heaven that God has made to us. The promise that someday we will live with Him in Heaven. After learning about His promises we have started to focus on how he created all things and how we are his creation. We have focused on the 6 days of creation and what He created on each one of those days. It is awesome to learn about God’s word.
