This month our second graders are learning about ants. They are quite fascinated by them. They immediately noticed how the ants worked together to make tunnels in their ant house. They commented on how quickly the work gets done when the ants work as a team. They also appreciate the fact that ants are strong because they eat their vegetables. No wonder the word of God considers ants as wise creatures in Proverbs 30:24-25 when it says, “Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;” Our students now know that no matter how small we are God has provided us with unique abilities and talents.

It’s June already where has the year gone. As I look back over this past year I feel that we have accomplished much in 2nd grade. Besides working on math strategies, becoming fluent readers, discovering about New York City history, sprouting and planting seeds, what stands out most in my mind is how much second grade has matured. They began to reason and concentrate on specific tasks independently. Most of all they began to show each other compassion. They worked hard at helping and supporting each other. We all learned this through bible stories and much prayer that: “I Can Do All Things through Christ Who Strengthens Me” Philippians 4:13

Cat and Mouse
Their favorite game was soccer. They learned to use their feet and no hands. Only the goalie was allowed to use their body and hands. In basketball, they learned how to shoot the ball in the basket. But their favorite game was cat and mouse.

Read, Read. Read!
It’s hard to believe that our 2012-13 school year is over. I’m happy to share that through the use of the research-based reading program and our students’ hard work all our students have excelled and went up at least two reading levels since September. Some went up five reading levels. Kindergarten through 5th grade were challenged in the reading lab to implement the following reading strategies as they read their weekly story selection and leveled readers.
Students were encouraged to summarize what they read, predict what will happen in the story, clarify and monitor what they read, ask questions while reading, visualize what they have read in their mind, and make connections with the text.
I would like to thank the parents for their efforts at home. As we look forward to the coming school year, I trust that as we continue to work together we will see greater success in the coming years. Please continue to encourage your child to Read, Read. Read!

The students in elementary enjoyed learning about music this year in its entirety . They learned how to cooperate with each other for when we had to move/dance to certain music. They have learned different aspect of music from the tempos in Italian to how to fine tune their social and motor skills.

New Artists
What an awesome year. We have learned so much in what seems now to be a little time. 2nd and 3rd graders were introduced to two not so famous artists. Students learned to create beautiful art with colors that pop out of the paper. They had a great time.

Birthday Extravaganza
We ended our year with our yearly Birthday Extravaganza. We had a wonderful and delicious luncheon together. The children were dressed in their beautiful outfits. It was a fun way to end the year. We made it through!
Thank you Lord.

During Social Studies time, the children enjoyed our trip going west on the Oregon Trail and The Pony Express. They were able to learn about the hardships the pioneers encountered as they traveled west. They learnt about the life of the cowboy and for the most part they too wanted to be cowboys and cowgirls. They were able to make connections and trace how life in the West is different now.
