Students have all been focused on rhythm and steady beat this month. They will continue learning about rhythm as well as adding dynamics and melody this. Students sing, play and move to the beat while in class.

This year we had over 500 in attendance at our Annual Academic Banquet. Students that have made the Honor Roll, High Roll or Principal’s List are honored each year with trophies at our banquet. The gymnasium was decorated in Red, White and Blue and the food was fantastic. We had a great time celebrating all of our students accomplishments. Way to Go!!!!!

National ElementaryHonor Society is a society of leaders. Students participate in group projects that assist the community. They are challenged in the areas of Service, Leadership, Scholarship and Character. It is a beautiful candlelit ceremony filled with great accomplishments. Members pledge to follow 1Timothy 4:16 and Honor Stoles are presented to Seniors. This year we had the pleasure of welcoming 28 students into NEHS. We are so very proud for all of our students accomplishments.

Reader’s Oath – by Debra Angstead
I promise to read
Each day and each night.
I know it’s the key
To growing up right.
I’ll read to myself,
I’ll read to a crowd.
It makes no difference
If silent or loud.
I’ll read at my desk,
At home and at school,
On my bean bag or bed,
By the fire or pool.
Each book that I read
Puts smarts in my head,
‘Cause brains grow more thoughts
The more they are fed.
So I take this oath
To make reading my way
Of feeding my brain
What it needs every day.
Children and adults need time to unwind and enjoy the summer, so make summer reading fun! Summer shouldn’t mean taking a break from reading (or learning) since students who engage in reading activities return to school refreshed, excited and ready to pick up where they left off. Also remember that most Evangel students have summer book reports to do so…
Here are some tips to make reading a positive experience:
Keep LOTS of reading material around the home –books, newspapers, magazines and always, the Bible
Read outdoors – at the park or beach
Read to your child (it doesn’t matter how old or young your child is!)
Let your child read to you (older children can read newspaper or magazine articles)
Visit the library, check your local library’s website for special reading-related
activities and age-appropriate book lists
Model reading – turn off the TV and each person reads his or her book
(including Mom, Dad, grandparent)
ASK them what they think about what they’ve read and LISTEN to what they say

4L is reading books such as “The Chronicles of Narnia,” “Fashion Designer,” “The Draw 50 Way,” and the “Geronimo Stilton” series. But the absolute favorite kind of book in this class is drawing books, they love to come and read books that teach them different drawing techniques. It is amazing how great they can learn to draw.

Students made thank you/we’ll miss you cards and posters for their teachers. These cards showed the children’s appreciation and were placed in their teacher’s mail box on the last day of school.

Students had a great time learning about all kinds of percussion instruments this month. I think this is probably the most fun instrument group for all kids!

The Creative Writing Festival is an annual event held by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) where students can use their written talents to express themselves. Entries are first judged on a district level and those receiving a score of “Superior” (the highest possible) are then sent to the regional level.
Evangel had the honor of having three of our students sent to the regional adjudication. On the regional level, each of these three received marks of “Excellent” and therefore will be showcased in a Creative Writing Booklet published by the ACSI Northeast Regional Office.
The students are Jennifer Munoz of 4L, Lauren Vicuna of 8F, and Stephanie Reis of 11C. We are so proud of their hard work and congratulate them on their expressive writing!Mrs. Candelier
This month in Social Studies we are learning all about government. This week we are focusing on the executive branch. Today 4L held elections for the President and Vice-President. The candidates made campaign posters and gave speeches. We sang patriotic songs and then voted by secret ballot. The winners were announced to a rousing rendition of Stars and Strips Forever and a downpour of confetti. Congratulations to our President Kayla Juarbe and Vice-President David Kemp.
