After we discussed interesting facts about crabs and sea stars, through poetry 1c began creating their own. We traced, cut and painted crabs and sea stars. After all our sea creatures were ready, we assembled a crab chart which reinforced the concept of counting by 10’s, and also assembled a sea star quilt which reinforced counting by 5’s. We are looking forward to a well deserved thanksgiving break! “IS TODAY THE PIZZA PARTY?” Has been asked almost everyday since it was announced. ” “No, not today!” “Our party is Tuesday, November 25th”

We begin December looking at ways to overcome peer pressure with the story of Nehemiah and then just in time for the holidays we study Mary, the mother of Jesus. We will look to her story to learn how we can survive family stress. 8C will end their Bible class for the year 2008 by walking around the school praying for the changes we wish to see take place in and around our school. On behalf of my wonderful students, I wish you a blessed Christmas and a wonderful, healthy 2009! Remember-JESUS is the REASON for the SEASON!

The students are currently reading three books from The Chronicles of Narnia series (The Last Battle, The Magician’s Nephew, and The Silver Chair). We are exploring the themes C. L. Lewis used to show a connection between Jesus’ work on the cross and the characters used to represent the different aspects of Christianity. As we prepare for our Christmas break, we will wind down our reading classes looking at clips from the movies The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.

It’s an exciting month for 6R, 6S, 7L, 7P, and 8C. We will continue studying writing personal and business letters. In an effort to bring what the students learn from the classroom to the outside world, the students will be sending holiday cards and letters to soldiers serving oversees. If you would like to join us in our blessing of those who are away from their family during this season, please do so by visiting the website: http://www.anysoldier.com. The students will also be using the computer lab to find official contact addresses for their favorite businesses. They will then type and mail out a business letter telling the company what they love about their products. May the Lord bless you this Christmas. Happy 2009!

7W Reading Lab Class

We have just finished reading Shiloh. It was the story of a dog that is mistreated and taken in by a boy named Marty. After hiding Shiloh from his parents, he realizes that if you start lying you have to keep doing it to cover up the first lie. After Shiloh gets attacked by another dog, Marty realizes he must tell his parents no matter what the consequence. In the end Marty works to buy Shiloh from his owner Judd Travers. The students learned that standing up for what is right isn’t always easy.

8C Reading Lab ClassWould you not run a race at the Olympics that you knew you would win a gold medal in, if that race was on a Sunday? Would you leave your family and go to a country that was at war? Eric Liddell did. He gave up an Olympic gold medal to honor the Lord’s Day. He left his wife and daughter to go back to China in the midst of war to serve as a missionary, because God told him to. Eric Liddell died in an internment camp serving God and others. Eric Liddell is a great example of one who truly followed Christ no matter what the cost. As we read this book it made the students think about what they would give up to serve God.

Class 7P is getting ready to do chapel next month. We are going to do a drama and give  testimonies about what God is doing in our lives. Right now we are learning about wisdom and the importance of having Godly wisdom. We are also learning wise sayings from the book of Proverbs. Next we will be learning how to live courageous lives in an ever increasingly wicked world.
