Fun Projects
Students will be constructing a variety of art projects for math. For the acuminating project, students will choose a personal favorite topic. They will construct a song, poem, or rap. The lyrics will be placed on small poster boards for display. They will also have an option to create a math game as an end of the year project.

Martin Luther King, Jr.
In celebration of a man who helped changed our outlook of equality and what it entails, students were split into groups of two. After choosing a quote from a bowl they had to discuss what they believed the quote meant and had to make a visual of the quote. The Poster had to include both the quote and a visual representation of the quote. This exercise helps students use symbolism, learn from each others view points (as some of the translations of the quotes differed) and to reflect on how Martin Luther King Jr. had a major impact on the world we live in today.

To Speak Or Not To Speak
On April 30, 2010, Samantha Byrne (8th), Angelie Cesario (8th), Jerry Meng (7th), and Kristina Papacostas (8th) represented Evangel Christian School at the annual Association of Christian Schools International Junior High Speech Meet. These four students worked hard to memorize works from the Dramatic Reading, Dramatic Poetry, or Humorous Reading categories. There were two rounds with different judges the students had to recite their pieces to, using only their voice and emotion to convey the author’s thoughts. Each of our students brought home a rating of “Good” and was awarded with a ribbon and certificates and the awards ceremony. We are so proud of our Speech Meet Team and look forward to continuing to build it up and enter more categories in the future!
The Holocaust
Part of our curriculum is learning about the Nazi’s and what happened to the Jews during the Holocaust. In learning about the Holocaust, we watched a documentary on a survivor of the Holocaust. This was a real eye opener for my students. It caused them to experience true empathy for the Jewish nation and realize how blessed we are to live in America!
College Prep
The Seniors are splitting their time between computer class and their senior seminar, which is preparing them for college. Since time is short and the Seniors are busy folks, we’ve assigned some independent work projects due on June 4. They have chosen all sorts of things to work on and are really enjoying the projects. Some are making videos, while others are dissecting computers. Many students are learning office software, and one group is making an online comic for which they are making their own website!

Office Masters
We are working on two basic projects right now. We have begun working through the Learning Office 2007 textbook, which is a very well designed book that will teach our kids how to skillfully use office software and prepare them for the future. We are also working on improving our keyboarding skills, which is going quite well. Some students have improved their typing rate by as many as 25 points in just the last three weeks!
