Candy Canes

We have been studying about Satan and how we can avoid his traps and be better Christians. We ended the month on a fun note, by doing a few class activities where we studied the birth of Jesus Christ. We talked about how the candy cane reminds us of the story of Jesus Christ’s birth and his death for us.

Microsoft Projects

11th and 12th grade have finished their first independent learning project, completing lessons and a final creative product in one of four Microsoft office programs. Their final products turned out wonderfully. During the second term, they are working on assignments for Mr. Hernandez, our college preparation guidance counselor. They are researching scholarships and making college applications and resumes.

Comparisons

The students in 8th – 10th grade have been going through a series of program comparisons. First we compared MS paint and Pixie. We then compared word processing programs. Next we are comparing publishing design programs. These activities have been great for promoting a critical approach to computing!

Excel

Lower Middle School has been learning some really cool tools in Excel, counting m&m’s, bouncing balls, and birthdays to learn how to record data and create graphs of different kinds. They enjoyed how easy it is, and many of them plan to use Microsoft Excel’s amazing functions for their next academic fair project.

Wish List

To enjoy the Christmas season and learn new skills in word processing such as changing fonts and centering text, we made fun things like colorful Christmas poems and bulleted Christmas lists. Some of the Christmas lists were pretty incredible. I wish I could have a jet pack for Christmas too!

Spirit Week

I was impressed with how many students in both elementary and middle school entered a drawing, painting or collage of our school mascot, the eagle, in the first ever Spirit Week art contest here at Evangel. Thanks for participating, guys!

Middle School

6th grade made a monochrome study and then re-created that drawing with paint, using black for shade and white for tint. All middle school students learned many technical artistic terms and can mix almost every single color imaginable from the three basic primary colors! 7th Grade broadened their repertoire by creating custom-made ink, oil pastel and chalk drawings, while 8th graders posed for each other for gesture and contour drawings.

Colors, Colors, Colors

Upper elementary students continued to master their knowledge and manipulation of primary, secondary, and neutral colors. 4th and 5th grade also created monochromatic, or single-color, drawings. They learned that a single colored pencil can be very versatile!

Thanksgiving

Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st grade continue to celebrate the beauty of autumn by making their own customized trees decorated with abstract leaves. They, along with second grade, also celebrated the Thanksgiving holiday by constructing their own turkeys and writing down what they were grateful for.

Fingerprints

We have been fingerprinting our fellow classmates. The students learned how to calculate their Herny factor for their fingerprint. They also made patent and plastic prints, prints made in sticky liquid and in soft solids like putty. This new chapter we are finding out what type of clues lead to forgery prosecutions. We even had a lab to try and disguise our handwriting!
