Like the freshmen, Evangel’s sophomores are also exploring Dickens’ London, but this time they are plunging into the world of satire as presented in Oliver Twist. They are looking at various themes presented in the book, including good versus evil and nature versus nurture; however, they will focus on the book as a social commentary of its time. Consequently, students will be gaining information on the issues that plagued Dickens’ London and will use that information as a springboard to writing their own social commentary, a satirical piece focusing on a contemporary issue of their choosing that will be included in a class magazine!
