Obedience shows love

For the month of February our second graders designed their own calendar markers. We had snow girls and butterfly patterns. In our Bible lesson on Moses the students learned that God blesses obedience. Some students confessed that many times they are disobedient to their parents but they now know that if they repent God is faithful to forgive them. For Valentine’s Day we had cupcakes and shared what we will do to show love to our parents or loved ones.

Valentine’s Day Cards & 3D Art

In celebration of Valentines Day, students made handmade valentines day cards for friends and family using a variety of colored construction paper, lace, ribbon, hearts, buttons, glitter and more.

For our Lesson in 3-D…….I began the lesson by placing the following objects in front of the class (aluminum foil, glue, paper and paint) and asked – Which of these can we use to make art? Most students replied glue, paper and paint, but one student said – All of them, and he was right. Art can be made out of everyday objects or even things we’d normally throw in the trash. Students had to first draw the face of their own imaginary character then turn the character into a 3D face glued to cardstock and paint it. The students left never looking at aluminum foil the same.

Winter Wonderland

snowman_hg_clr

We had an amazing time at our Literacy Day: Winter Wonderland. Our Reading Room was transformed into a real life winter scene. We had snowflakes of every size and shape suspended from the ceiling, an igloo constructed by one of our 5th graders and the song Walking in a Winter Wonderland playing in the background as our students entered.  Our Elementary school students sang songs and were read incredible winter storybooks such as The Tiny Snowflake, The Little Snowflake, and Winter Rabbit. We watched a special Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr., which talked about snowflakes. Students drew pictures and answered questions based on what they learned from the video.

However, the best part of the day, and all the students will agree, had to be when upper elementary played a game called Build Your Own Snow woman. Each class was split into three groups and had about two minutes to decorate teachers and aides as snow women. They used a roll of toilet paper and a whole lot of creativity. It was yet another successful, fun Literacy Day for all! Happy Reading!

Cards for Haiti

Students at Evangel Christian School in kindergarten through 5th grade created over 120 pictures and cards to let the children of Haiti know that they are loved and not forgotten!

The students have been praying everyday for the children of Haiti and we wanted to put our prayers into action! So the students made cards and pictures and collected a donation for the families in Haiti.

Our prayer is that these cards of encouragement will be hung all around the country of Haiti in the NEW SCHOOLS that will be built for the children! God bless you Haiti and we love you!

ESL Class

The Korean ESL students have started working on their writing this month. As English language learners, organizing and writing out their thoughts in English is not an easy task. So we are looking at how to brainstorm and organize ideas in Korean and then working on writing grammatically correct sentences in English. It is a work in progress and we plan to practice more writing throughout this semester. We also started reading articles from the free AM papers. The language is simple enough for the students to read and it is giving them a broader understanding of the American culture and what goes on in the community so it’s a very helpful tool. I am so blessed to be working with such a great group of students and I am excited to help them learn and acquire their second language!

GO

Christmas Program

Go! That was the theme shared by our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students on Thursday, December 17th at Evangel Christian School’s Annual Christmas Program. Using the Christmas story as the basis, Middle School demonstrated how God calls us to Go Lead!, Go Obey!, Go Risk!, Go Tell!, and Go Serve! Students read poems they had written on their own, sang songs, danced, and performed dramas as each segment demonstrated how we can do one of the five “Go’s.” The grand finale featuring all Middle School students singing Jesus, Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child ended the performance on a truly high note. The students practiced many hours and their hard work did not go unnoticed as many guests shared how blessed and touched they were by the message. So remember, when God tells you to go–GO!

Bowery Mission Trip

On January 7th, students from Pastor David Ham’s Drama elective performed their amazing mini-play entitled Freedom Cry during our bi-monthly trip to The Bowery Mission in Manhattan, New York. Freedom Cry tells the story of Mary, the mother of Jesus, with a twist–it’s set in modern times! Through this magnificent drama, we see how when we allow ourselves to be used of God and risk ourselves, truly miraculous things can happen. Our elementary students helped to bless those in attendance with handmade cards. We appreciate being allowed to minister in such an impactful way. Share our day with us by checking out the photographs in the Gallery section of our website.
