With a lot of material to cover as we prepare for the US History and Government Regents test in June, the 11th graders have already reviewed the explorers, the discovery of America, and colonial life, and are now beginning a unit on The Road to the Revolutionary War. While we studied colonial society, we had one student pose as a member of the wealthy “gentry” class–so don’t be surprised if you see a picture floating around of one of the students wearing a gray wig!

For these first few weeks of school, government students have been studying political philosophy, which is the theoretical foundation they need to know before learning about the specifics of American government. Our government students have been studying different kinds of law and forms of government, and completed a patriotic symbol project, which they presented to the class. We are starting to work on our public policy issue projects, in which students will be researching a public policy that interests them and writing an opinion-editorial to submit to a newspaper, magazine, or internet blog. We are having a great time in class!

1c has taken off to a great start! We are all getting to know each other! Our theme this year is The Ginger Bread Man! We have been reading all different versions – “The Ginger Bread Boy”, “The Ginger Bread Baby” and “The Ginger Bread Friend” to mention a few. Every one in the class will get a chance to decorate their own Ginger Bread Person at home with their families and bring it to class to share.

This year the Girls Varsity Volleyball team is off to a great start, picking up right where they left off last year. Lead by captains Becky Wong & Karas Bonifas the Lady Eagles defeated Berkeley Carroll (2-1) and Staten Island Academy (2-0) to start off their season. The Lady Eagles are looking forward to Thursday’s game against Long Island Lutheran.

Manic Drive Visits Evangel
High School Chapel on September 18th was TOTALLY AWESOME as Manic Drive – an up and coming Christian Band – came to visit us. They played two hits off their new album – our favorite was Closer. It talks about getting closer and closer to the Lord. We had a blast ………………. took tons of pics…………………..and had them sign CD’s and posters. We are so thankful to Manic Drive for blessing us and we pray that the Lord continues to bless their ministry!

This year we had over 500 in attendance at our Annual Academic Banquet. Students that have made the Honor Roll, High Roll or Principal’s List are honored each year with trophies at our banquet. The gymnasium was decorated in Red, White and Blue and the food was fantastic. We had a great time celebrating all of our students accomplishments. Way to Go!!!!!
