“Spiders at Work” taught us that: Black Widows are poisonous, Daddy Long Legs have two very long legs, Spiders are helpful animals and catch insects in their webs. Wow! Spiders are an one of God’s awesome creations!

After reading excerpts from “Through Gates of Splendor”, students chose a character they want to learn more about and are preparing presentations about that character. Stop by room 204 to see the characters from “Through Gates of Splendor” hanging in the room.

Students in 3G are borrowing chapter books to prepare themselves for fourth grade and to challenge themselves to read longer books. We also spoke about earth day and they wrote about ways in which we can help our environment. They wrote about having Hybrid cars and riding scooters or bikes to school instead of cars. We can also help by planting trees which provide us with oxygen. They read, “The Lord took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” Genesis 2:15 and focused on this verse while they wrote about helping their environment.

In honor of Earth Day, this month we focused on reading books that talked about ways in which we can help our environment. We spoke about recycling, and saving water and energy to help protect our earth. We read “Our Class Is Going Green,” which is a book that was written by Kindergarten children and was published by scholastic because it won the ‘Kid’s Are Authors’ contest. We also read the book, “One Tree,” written by Leslie Bockol. This book is special because it is made from 98% recycled materials.

In World Civ. we have not only been looking at revolutionaries who have changed their region of the world, but we have also been looking at how the rest of the world looks at change and nationalism. We are finishing the course as we approach more contemporary issues in our global economy and community. We are also looking at what impact we can have as individual citizens participating in such a large network of human beings.

We have looked at the Corinthian and Galatian churches and compared them to the contemporary church in America. We have looked at many questions such as: How far have we come? What issues do we face? How much does Paul’s advice relate to our present situations? We have been investigating these questions and learning more about the grace of God and the effect it should have on our lives.

We have investigated campaigns and elections and we have a better understanding of what it takes to get elected, and how a candidate needs to position themselves for the best results. PAC’s, contributions, advertising, networking, and a relentless spirit will help, but it is ultimately the voters who wil choose.

The most horrific conflict of all time is behind us and the tensions of the Cold War are upon us. Who is a Communist? Is it you?? Is it me?? Over the backdrop of the Cold War, we are fighting for Civil Rights in America. African Americans are leading the way and change is coming — love and peace are also new buzzwords that are lingering in the atmosphere.

Advanced Algebra – We have gotten through factoring, FOILing and functions. We can now estimate LeBron’s hang time or the time it will take for a pop-fly to be caught – stuff we never knew math could be useful for. Totally Amazing!
