What to do when a Christian sins? This is a question students in sixth grade Bible have been attempting to answer. Students have learned that once they sin they need to confess the sin and let God cleanse the sins from their lives. Furthermore, students spent time sharing sins they committed throughout the week and how they felt remorseful for committing such sins. Some sins included disobedience to parents, teachers, and older siblings, gossip, and lying.

The students finished reading C.S. Lewis’ The Last Battle from his The Chronicles of Narnia series. We are reviewing this text as well as the many concepts we learned about reading since the beginning of the year in preparation for our mid-year final.

The students had a great time working on their entries for the Association of Christian School International (ACSI) Creative Writing Festival. Students put their best effort into creating short stories, essays, and poems. Isaiah Bienemann of 6R wrote a cool story about a plane-from the plane’s perspective! Rohan Hutchinson of 6R wrote a beautiful poem about angels, and David Hamilton wrote one about his wonderful parents. It was hard picking just a few to enter into the next level of competition and I congratulate those who were selected! Aside from this nice “creative” break, the students are busy preparing for their mid-year finals. Prepositions, anyone…?

This month we have been looking at the true meaning of joy. Where joy comes from, and how we draw strength from Joy. This holiday season can be a despresing time for many people. They know it’s the holiday season that’s supposed to be filled with love, joy and peace, but still feel a void. The 6th grade class is learning that true joy comes from God. It has nothing to do with outward circumstances but rather what the Holy Spirit has deposited in you. Ture joy is knowign God loves and acceptes you.

Evangel hosted a Christmas Concert for over one thousand people on December 20, 2008. At 6:00pm the doors opened to a frigid night air; the temperature was in the twenties – that didn’t stop the anyone from attending. Sarah Groves, Leeland, Sixpence and Jars of Clay sang many, many different rebditions a of famous Christmas carols. What an awesome night it was; everyone praising the Lord through song. The lighting crew was tremendous, as they transformed our sanctuary into an incredible light show. We are thrilled that God allowd us to be the venue for this concert and we pray that many were blessed. A special thanks to Rock the Sound for making it all possible.

In Consumer math, students have been working through business balance sheets, with its similarities to balancing a checkbook. Students will now focus on the Profit and Loss in a business. We will be also talking about how profit and loss affect them whether they have a business or are working for someone.

Students are continuing with patterns, tables and expressions and how they fit onto a scatter plot. As they conclude this topic, seventh grade will quickly go into learning about integers and how they work on a number line.

Students are continuing with fractions at the beginning of January. They will be learning how to put them in simplest form, writing equivalent fractions, as well as comparing and ordering them. They will finish out the week with a test on fractions and start looking at terminating and repeating decimals.

I am so proud of how hard Pre-K 3 worked on their Christmas Teddy Bears for our beautiful bulletin board. We sure did dirty our hands and clothes and made a huge mess, but it was well worth it and very fun. We constantly sang Christmas songs and spoke about the true meaning of Christmas. Wevencouraged the children to thank Jesus for all that we have and to give thanks unto Him with a cheerful heart.
