International Week at Evangel was filled with diversity an a unique blend of rich cultures. Over 73 different nationa are represented at Evangel and how awesome it is to share about our heritage with eachother.
Each day of the week was filled with something new… from wearing the colors of our flags, to country costumes, to food and desserts from our homelands. Each new student gets tpplace a marker in our wall map to represent where they are form.
We are so blessed at Evangel and we thank God for blessing us with such diversity.

While studying our “Crime Scene Investigation” chapter my students began learning about the steps in investigating a crime scene: how to collect evidence, how to create and use a chain of custody, and how to draw rough and detailed sketches of a crime scene. Throughout our discussions on each topic we shared how different television episodes and mystery book plots were examples of each idea. As we learned each topic we practiced by doing a hands-on project. For collecting evidence we: identified evidence, collected it using gloves and tweezers, bagged it in the appropriate type of container, sealed the container and then created a chain of custody. We measured and sketched our classroom and created a rough draft of our “crime scene”.
To culminate the chapter I created a scenario of an Evangel staff member having several arguments/altercations at work with one of them ending in his untimely death. I then planted evidence and clues, some of which where misleading, while others were critical to solving the case.
We had learned what the 8 types of evidence were and used our layman’s knowledge to investigate and catch a “killer”. As C.S.I. teams my class divided up the jobs of the investigation team members. Some took pictures (as they learned how to do in our text) while others collected and bagged evidence, still others interviewed witnesses and to notes to record and document the information so it could be used in a court of law. The groups took turns using their school ID’s to enter and exit the crime scene during their investigation. At the end of the lab period the “coroner” took away the body of the staff member and my C.S.I. teams when back to the “lab” to start sifting through the known and unknown evidence. I am happy to say that after all of their hard work, all teams were able to positively identify the “killer” or at least have the killer on their suspect list.

“Evangel Newsletter”
October 26th to the 30th was Spirtual Emphasis week at Evangel. Students had an amazing week during our Spiritual Emphasis week. Our younger students learned how God loves them just the way they are. They alsocompleted crafts and sang songs each day with our theme, “Panadamania.” The students are continuing to learn that God is “wild” about us! Our older students had an amazing week as our speakers, Ron and Heather Rhoads flew in for the week to share the love of God through the Word and song. Many students responded to the message that was given each day and we are blessed as a staff to see the seeds being planted in our students’ lives.

Review Time
I can’t believe the month of September is almost over. The class has been working diligently reviewing what they learned last year. They are now ready to move forward in their Spanish studies. We will begin with Chapter 7 –Traveling can’t wait so away we go.

Hamlet
The 11th grade steeped themselves in the study of tragedy and questioned whether such sorrowful events could have been avoided. The intricate plot of Hamlet contains almost a dozen deaths, and the students backtracked to rewrite the play, suggesting that certain actions could have saved almost all of those lives. They saw the depth of emotion both in this play, and in the poetic works of Edgar Allan Poe, who seemed to continually pine for his lost love. As they read the poetry they saw how very carefully crafted it was; even the number of syllables is important, and the number of times a phrase mentioned, symbolic!

Old Testament
11th Grade’s historical survey of the Old Testament finished with a look into the godlessness of Saul, the repentance of David, and the wisdom of Solomon. Solomon’s incomplete application of his own insights to his own life resulted in the splitting of the kingdom of Israel. Nevertheless, God’s faithfulness to his promises to Adam and Eve, Abraham, Moses, and David is evident as he preserves the memory of his promise to send a savior and protects his line until the times have reached their fulfillment. Christ is born—the saving sacrifice and reigning king, to establish the throne of David for eternity.

We finally made it
We’ve reached the end of an unbelievable year! It has been quite the journey to say the least. We have gone through the odyssey of the Civil War, had a new birth in freedom, and experienced the confusion of post-civil war reconstruction. We have been awed by the expansion of American industry in the late 1800s and impressed by the solidarity of the early labor unions. We have seen the rise of American populism in the West and the Tammany Hall style politics in urban centers. We’ve seen the roles of men and women change and how black citizens threw off the chains of Jim Crow. We thrived in the Roaring 20s and survived in the Great Depression. World War I shocked us and World War II appalled us, but it also changed us for the better. Our journey through history had bumps along the road, but through it all, we gained nuggets of knowledge. Now it’s the students turn to forge from knowledge practical wisdom, so they can go out from Evangel Christian High School and witness to the truth.

Hard work pays off
Students worked hard on their dance routines – section by section. The students had to learn a lot of new steps. They learned how to do leg swipes, pop and lock and moves with partners, feet gliding and flag routines. The students chose to also come on Thursday afterschool to work on their dance routines. Great job!

Do Wait
The song they danced to was Do Wait. This group worked really hard as there were very challenging dance steps and they had to work with partners. These students even practiced after school just to get a dance step or to learn the moves. There were about 27 students in the group. The challenge was that they had to learn how to move as a group and use the flags. It’s not that easy to throw a flag up in the air and catch it without dropping it on the floor.
