Second grade has been writing letters to friends and family. It was interesting to discover that most of the letters were addressed to each other. The majority of the kids made invitations to each other to spend a day together during the summer time. Some even expressed their desire to have their friends join them in their family trip to a foreign country. Most importantly, they were able to express how they feel about each other. In addition, they were encouraged to use a lot of descriptive language. As a result, our students are not only bonding with each other but they’re beginning to write longer sentences. Soon they will get the opportunity to mail their letters. It’s an exciting opportunity to make life long friendships and, at the same time, learn how to properly compose a letter.
