Fifty Four alumni attended our 1st Alumni Reunion Luncheon on Saturday, June 7 at 11:30. We also welcomed the following teachers who came to greet their former students: John Coymen, Chris and Sharon White, Jeff Querfeld, Yvette Jimenez, Mary Kemp, Michele Mena, Mary Carey, Jennifer Stahler, Isabel Rosario, Maria Wong and Vikki Kemp.
The theme for the luncheon was “Bloom where you are planted” reminding each of us that God can used us where He has placed us – whether it is in a college classroom or in the working world or in our own families.
Pictures were posted of each graduating class to be a reminder of those days at ECS. Following a delicious Italian feast, Miss Johansson reminded everyone of Evangel’s development from the first day ECS opened in September 1985. Michael Russo was recognized as being an alumni that was a student in Kindergarten the first day the school opened. Carolyn Marko, ECS Principal, brought us up to date with the present happening at Evangel. A power point presentation was shown of Evangel Christian School today. Pastor Johansson shared his vision for the future of ECS.
Pictures were taken during the luncheon and a special group picture at the end of the luncheon. A number of the alumni e-mailed or called me to say that they would have like to come but previous commitments for the day may it impossible. We are already looking forward to our Second Alumni Reunion to be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 –SAVE THE DATE.

On June 5th Juniors and Seniors began to trickle into the school “dressed to the nines”. What a great evening was had by all. Freshmen and Sophmores, dressed in black and white, were hosts and hostesses. Students ate an incredible Italian meal and then the fun began. Teachers gave each Senior a special gift and each Senior left something special for next year’s senior class. At 10:00pm students changed into their “play clothes” and “had a blast” playing in the gym and throwing water balloons outside. There was also a great time of sharing and remeniscing. What an awesome evening we had spending time with the seniors before they graduated. The evening ended at midnight with pizza and soda. We can’t wait until next year’s banquet. A special thank you to 11th graders, Sarah Singh and Daniel Herrera who organized and planned the evening. We’re going to miss you seniors. Please come back and visit us.
One of the best parts of May was Dinosaur week. Special events included a dinosaur egg hunt. Each egg had a small dinosaur inside. We painting giant dinosaurs with teammates. We made dinosaur hats by putting colorful dinosaurs on a visor, and made a book with different dinosaurs in it. We enjoyed two dinosaur treats: dinosaur chicken nuggets and fruit snacks.
During our trip to Flushing Meadow Park Queens Zoo, we were blessed with a sunny day. We fed the goats and sheep and let them lick pellets off our hands. We saw lots of animals at the big zoo, and learned that reindeer are really big! We sat on the grass and enjoyed a picnic lunch, and ended the day with a merry-go-round ride and ice cream.
We took a trip to Chuck E. Cheese and played games using tokens. We won tickets when we played the games and got prizes using the tickets. We climbed and ran around. We had a yummy pizza lunch and drink. Chuck E. Cheese himself dropped by to say hi. He high-fived everyone!
This semester was a busy time in Pre-K 4. We finished the alphabet and began writing the letters. We completed numbers 1-20 and learned about money. We wrote our first names and copied simple words We also learned about presidents and sang songs about them.. We learned that George Washington was our first President and that he is the Father of our country. President Lincoln helped to free the slaves.
Evangel Christian School
National Honor Society & National Junior Honor Society
Induction and Recognition Ceremony
May 29, 2008 7:00pm
This was a beautiful candlelighting ceremony where we recognized 30 NHS members and inducted 9 new NHS members. There were 16 NJHS members that were recognized and 26 new NJHS members were inducted. The four High School Officers each read about one of the four characteristics that represent the National Honor Society. All new inductees were pinned. 12th and 8th grade officers received Honor Cords, and all seniors received Honor Stoles to be worn at gradauation. The members and new inductees pledged to always honor the Truth of God. Candles were then lit by Seniors and all members marched down the aisle. We are very proud of all of our members.
Each group must work on a project in which they reach out to the community. NJHS raised money for autism and actually got to meet the little girl they raised money to help.
