This year the students were involved in a variety of activities including hearing, speaking, reading and writing. We emphasized the basics of the regular present tense and stem changing verbs, and later in the year they were introduced to the past tense. Vocabulary in context and use of adjectives were studied. Cultural studies involving film and information about Latin America and Spain were part of the course as well.

The drama elective teaches students basic acting skills most notably improvisation. This school year, was unique because only boys signed up for the elective. The highlight of the elective was our practice times and actual show for the Spring Concert. The students participating by acting on stage in a zany comedy about guests on a talk show who can only say one word. They had the audience rolling in their seats!

In the Resource Room students get extra academic support. IEP students get individualized and small group engagement to address educational challenges. This year in Resource Room we saw students in each grade improve in their subject classes. There were many success stories and students showed confidence in their academic abilities.

Psychology explores the idea of controlling behavior and mental process. It’s the type of class that lends its self to debate and self-evaluation of one owns thoughts and behavior. This year we had some amazing debates and experimental group work. Some of the more memorable experiments were applying classical condition to fellow students, testing hearing and touch absolute threshold and testing visual difference threshold.

OUR BUGS ARE HATCHING OUT OF THERE COCOONS AND OUR ANTS ARE DIGGING TUNNELS. AS SCIENTIST, WE ARE
OBSERVING LADYBUGS, BUTTERFLIES AND ANTS, AND THEIR CHANGES. NEXT WE WILL JOURNAL WHAT WE HAVE OBSERVED.
AT THE END OF OUR JOURNAL WE WILL LET OUR BUTTERFLIES AND LADYBUGS GO FREE INTO THEIR REAL HABITATS. ONE OF

Middle School ELA consists of reading, writing, and discussion, as pertains to the four novels covered throughout the school year in each grade. Students participated in read-alouds, group discussions, writing essays, developing imaginary characters for short stories, and various grammar activities. In addition, this year, 7th and 8th grade students were challenged to create skits based on themes that appeared in their novels, while 6th grade students were challenged to create posters to advertise their themes.

The students in the third grade experienced a different world this year. The third grade is the year in which the students’ work becomes more extensive and the responsibility for the tasks becomes more of the students’ own.
We explored a variety of genres and worked on various skills and strategies for comprehension, as well as for critical thinking and analysis. We also became authors to create our own formal writing pieces to publish, in which the lengths or the qualities of the contents expected were challenging. The mathematical concepts became more abstract with skills that demanded students to analyze and synthesize their learning, going beyond memorization of mathematical facts.
In the midst of our hard strive to be equipped and prepared for our Creator academically, we did not forego of the fun and the blessing of each individual’s presence in the Lord – We became another important family of God.

Students read and analyzed texts of several genres including poetry, prose, and theater. In the analysis of the works students paid attention not just to the literary techniques employed by the authors corresponding with the literary fashions of their time but also explored the social, historical, ideological, religious, philosophical, aesthetic and political backgrounds that contributed to their creation.
At this level of Spanish, students emerge into the literary richness of the language, while reviewing and continuously practicing the conversational and vocabulary concepts of Spanish. The goal is to refine and enhance in proficiency that will last a lifetime through immersion of the language.
Students approached the literary material confidently and made impressive text-to-text, text-to-self, and text-to-world connections.
