Fear Dismissed
by: Kely Christmas
Standing on stage, stuck in a cage.
Spotlight on me, perfect, on key.
Butterflies fly, so bad, I might cry.
God can’t use me, why can’t he see?
But I am worth it,
The talent, the glitter, the surface.
My problems won’t stop me,
They’re just gifts, I don’t see.
Yeah, sure, the spotlight teases me,
Follows me, taunts me, swallows me.
But God turns his head to me,
And says, “You are already free”.
And so, I clench my stomach tight,
Here comes another daily fight.
There Satan turns to me,
On his knees for the key,
I realize I have control.
No one but God is my patrol.
I shake my head and lean right in.
“This time, you’re late, you will not win.
I’m like a prisoner full of sin,
But this time I will not give in.
Because God has held on tight to my wrist,
So I’ll pull up my other fist.”
With that said, Satan was dismissed.

Overcoming the Enemy
Before we were weak we might have shrieked.
Satan was mightier than we.
He was like a bully bounding us, blocking us, and keeping us away from God.
But when all was bleak as we were weak Jesus Christ came.
With His help we overcame Satan, sin, and all his schemes.
Jesus Christ had beaten him a million to one.
Satan lost and we had WON!!!
We made it to our Father like a missing puzzle piece now found.
We now have made it to heaven like a kid making it to his playground.
We made it to heaven because Jesus Christ had come to Earth.
He died for us including you and me.
We then became brothers and sisters in Him like a family.
Because of Him we made it home.
Because of Him we don’t have to just roam.
Because of Him he gave us a way.
Because of Him he saved the day.
Because He died we gained liberty.
Because He died we now are FREE!!!
“Not Too Young”
by Danielle Serrano
I’m not too young to follow His commands
I’m not too young to believe in His plans,
For He knows the plans He has for me
Plans of goodness and prosperity.
I’m not too young to get past the obstacles.
I’m not too young to preach the gospel,
For our purpose in life is to bring glory to Thee
And then off to live life in eternity.
I’m not too young to understand God’s teachings,
I’m not too young to do any of these things.
For I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,
All I have to do is believe.
I’m not too young to love the Lord,
I’m not too young to use the sword.
For God doesn’t have an ending date.
He goes on and on, like the figure eight.
He made the universe, how big, how vast.
Yet He is bigger, He knows the future and past.
I’m not too young, I’m not too young, I’m not too young.
September- This month 4th grade is studying about plant and animal life. We not only learned how plants grow, we also grew our own bean sprouts and measured which type of bean grows the fastest. FYI: Lima beans won! We also learned about producers (plants), consumers (animals), and decomposers (bacteria and fungi). Working together in groups we created our own elaborate food chain. It is awesome to see how God makes everything work and interact together perfectly; and how even the most insignicant creatures can have an important purpose in His design.
October- This month in Math we are studying about everything using base-four measurement. We are making predictions about our calender markers in Number Corner that regroup by fours from units, to strips, to mats. We are learning about liquid measurement using food coloring and visually seeing how 4 cups make a quart, and 4 quarts make a gallon. Finally, we are using base-four notation the way mathematicians do while we find minimal collections for the hands-on base-four peices we use. It is amazing to see how many times we count by fours in our everyday life without even thinking about it!
“Fifth graders have enjoyed learning how to write Bio poems and Memoirs in Writing class. The publishing party in September was a great way to showcase their hard work for the month on Bio poems. They are excited about showing off their Memoirs for October as well.”

All Middle School Social Studies classes have begun to work on a civics education program called Project Citizen. An inquiry-based program, Project Citizen helps to develop the knowledge and skills needed to become active citizens in order to work to make their communities better.
Grade 6 and 7 – Students continue to learn reading strategies to help digest informational text. Inquiry-based learning has been introduced as well as a number of hands-on projects, simulations, and games. Our lessons are cross-curriculuar, incorporating English, Science, Art, Math, and more!
Grade 8 – Students will be working on the New York City Exit Project in Social Studies for the month of November. Students will investigate a topic within the Progressive Movement in depth. This will allow students to experience immersion in a social studies topic, as well as question, investigate, and present a well-researched project.
New Vocabulary
The beginning of school has been quite exciting in ESL with over fifty students from all over the world acclimating to a Christ centered school. The Middle School and High school students have been increasing their conversational English through group activities related to their workbooks. Spiritual Emphasis Week became an impetus for many students to learn for the first time words many of us take for granted such as sanctuary, redemption, praise, glory and audacity. It also became a special time to learn how to question and write reflectively. Our latest projects were for International Week; students made presentations with either posters or power points describing where they grew up, comparing and contrasting their hometown with New York City, and predicting where they will be in ten years. The best part was listening to the students ask questions in English about each other’s hometown. It was very enriching for all and enlightening to me.

Middle Ages
10th grade started the school year studying ancient Greece. They loved to read myths and had the chance to write some of their own. When we studied Rome, we focused on how Christianity changed from a persecuted faith to state religion and how that effected the Roman empire as well as the early church. Now we are in the depths of the Middle Ages. Students have created their own coat of arms, built models of castles and cathedrals, written songs as troubadours, and even drew their own version of a tapestry. By focusing on the culture of the time, history of 1000 years ago is able to become more real.
